Bessie was a homemaker and farm wife. She tended to the many chores required of her time when homes did not have electricity or running water. She canned fruit and vegetables and tended to her family. She hid the money she made by selling eggs to Stewart's store, under the carpet, and used it to buy special things for the family and the house. She passed on her thrifty ways to her children. ¹

Bessie married Leonard Eugene Shaw, son of George S Shaw and Sarrah Jane Leonard, on 28 Jul 1903. (Leonard Eugene Shaw was born on 6 Jan 1879 in , Pawnee, Kansas, died in 1953 in Council Grove, Morris, Kansas, USA and was buried in Parkerville, Morris, Kansas, USA.)
